about

Kismet, once an unknown term, has grown ever familiar and meaningful. Fate, serendipity, providence, God or gods, they all guide us to where we belong and deliver experiences that shape us for who we are meant to be.

This album is a reflection of that. It is a reflection of moments, locations, emotions, and experiences shared with Andrea. These songs would not be here without her presence and the positive impact she has had. So, please enjoy; and to many more.

About the songs:

Clocked was written on my patio outside one evening. It was after I had learned the term, which means to be discovered as an imposter. For me, that is often a worry and is meant to be conveyed here as glimmers of hope become smothered out.

Unsettled was intermittently written between episodes of sleep paralysis. It's often the case, if I don't remove myself from bed, then I immediately return to an episode. I used Ableton during the course of that night as a means of escape.

Errant was written at Wild Honey in Enterprise, while Andrea studied. The title hints that something had gone off course; in reality, it was nothing more than a literal change of music played in the coffee house. It was a day the baristas picked the music and they were very pleased with themselves.

Off-day was written during an evening free of obligations. These are times that I find difficult, without a reason to be industrious. It's hard for me to remember to enjoy myself, but this is the surprising result.

Stasis was written at my Andrea's apartment and was one of the first tracks on this album. It is a return to form to earlier dark and noisy works under former names, which I usually reserve for singles nowadays.

Rain was written at Mural City Coffee in Dothan, while Andrea studied. The shutter at the coffee shop were rolled up and it began to rain. She tagged this as a meditative track and I wholly agree. I would also like to thank the kind stranger who approached me and asked about my process.

Time Apart was written when Andrea visited home early on during our relationship. It was with the feeling of longing for her safe return and the hopefulness for our future in mind, that I took to Ableton to capture these emotions.

Lullaby (for Andrea) was written explicitly as a lullaby when she expressed difficulty sleeping and served the inception of this album. I was somewhat apprehensive when writing it, always curious how the reception would be, but here we are an entire album later.
