about

Pensive is about the power of thoughts. More specifically, the rumination, as well as the time and energy we dedicate to them. In return, these thoughts then affect the individual.

This album is a reflection of my thoughts-as-sounds from over the last year, before moving to Montgomery, shortly after releasing Kismet up until a few months ago.

It has been a long journey and there have been many thoughts along the way. Some of which I have perhaps fed too much, making them overgrown and taken a life of their own.

These are present in the album art, represented in both color and form. The blue and green within the brain conveys the colloquial ‘feeling blue’ or being ‘green with envy’. The golden, perhaps a bit of hope.

Additionally there is a jog-line, the draftsman’s symbol for an unknown continuation elsewhere, onward to other emotions and thoughts, wishfully more positive ones.

These emotions affect the self beyond the mind, altering perception. Outside of the skull, the flora extend upon this. There are bundles of yew for sorrow, marigold for jealousy, and sloe for difficulties.

Overall, these negative emotions are representative of living with mental illness and its constant presence, as well as the struggle of keeping it in check.

I have made no secret to those who know me, that this is my reality. I even admit, at times, I have identified with it too strongly. But just as one preaches about their own convictions, so I go on about what is important to me.

May this be enough. A special thank you for all who listened and gave feedback along the way. An endless gratitude to my fiancée; te amo eternamente.
